Luigi Righetti Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico is deep ruby-red, a complex nose full of dried fruits. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, with big cherry and prune flavours in the mouth give way to a rich, smooth finish. This wine will continue to change and improve in the bottle for several years to come, if cellared correctly or this is drinking really well now.
This Amarone is made from the best grapes grown in Luigi Righetti’s vineyards. The real interesting aspect to this wine is its unusual production method. The grapes are naturally dried for around five months in the loft of the winery before being pressed and aged in oak.
It is also a Vegetarian and Vegan (neither certificated yet) friendly wine.
Food Matching: This is a well balanced wine, it is high in Alcohol so best enjoyed with food. To this end it is a very flexible wine, I love it with a lamb stew, it is also great with game, also good with cheese..
Grape: Corvina, Molinara, Rondinella
Vineyard / Winemaker: Located in Valgatara, is located in the centre of the ‘Valpolicella Classico’ area. The Luigi Righetti estate is a small ,family run winery. Created by Angelo Righetti in 1909. Angelo soon gained a reputation as an outstanding winemaker. The family has focussed on producing quality wines offering extremely good value.
Th family has followed these principles and Gian Maria Righetti is now a fifth generation wine maker carrying on the family tradition. The brand name was established by Gian Maria’s father, Luigi. Luigi took over winemaking in the 40’s and was the first in the family to consider production beyond supply of local demand. Today, Luigi is still active in the estate’s day to day operations and Gian Maria, took over winemaking responsibilities in 1985 and this remains a classic family run vineyard.
