The VS Grand Cru Cognac by Frapin is the youngest cognac produced by Frapin but do not be deceived this is a very fine Grand Cru Congac. In colour it is a pale yellow in colour with amber lights in the core. On the nose it it is light with citrus, slightly nutty totes with jasmine and honey. In the mouth it is fresh, yet rounded, smooth and concentrated, with lemon, lime and honey flavours. A highly aromatic cognac, complex, with a touch of vanilla on the finish.
Like all Frapin cognacs, the VS Luxe is made entirely on Frapin’s 315 hectare domaine in the heart of the Grande Champagne. It is distilled on its lees which gives fine aromas and extra complexity on the palate. During maturation it spends time in new Limousin casks, which impart a touch of vanilla and roundness. It is approximately 5 to 6 years old.
Cognac Frapin is located in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac and at over 300ha is the largest single estate in the area. The Cointreau family’s involvement in the wine and spirits business can be traced back as far as 1270. They established themselves in the region initially as a family of wine-growers before becoming distillers and they have continued in this tradition for 20 generations, based in the stunning Chateau de Fontpinot.
The Grande Champagne region produces the very best cognacs; rich, intense and flavoursome with fantastic ageing potential. Frapin’s house style echoes perfectly these characteristics. The wonderfully aromatic blends are created by taking infinite pains at every stage of the production process and ensuring that each spirit is matured in the cellar best suited to attain its own individual optimum condition. This level of control is achieved in part due to the 100% ownership of all the vineyards used for production and the comparatively small scale of the production that allows the family to hold generous stocks of mature spirits.
Recently Cognac Frapin have shown once again that experience and innovation go hand in hand with the creation of “Le Multimillésime”, the world’s first multi-vintage cognac. Nº1 was launched in 2008 to great acclaim, and immediately swept the board at the International Spirits Challenge wining the Cognac Gold Medal, the Cognac Trophy and the Champion Spirits Prize
