Signature from Winbirri Vineyards is a real star in our opinion. Very light with the most amazing nose, rich and fruity. Whilst this has spent 12 months in new Oak Baroques the oak flavour remains very subtle as the Dornfelder grape is very robust and does not easily take on these flavours. On the Palate it is rounded with loads of fruit flavours leading to well balanced finish. Go on, be rebellious and try this wine chilled, almost like a white wine!
English red wine has, over the years has not enjoyed the best of reputations and in fairness was not great wine. The Winbirri Signature should not be thought of in this manner. Winbirri wines are well made from their own grapes and are de finitely worth trying
Food Matching: This is a great wine for just sitting in the sun or next to a roaring fire with a few good friends, Great with cold meats, roast chicken and delicate cheeses.
Grape Varieties: 100% Dornfelder
Winbirri Vineyards: Winbirri Wines are based in Surlingham, Norfolk. A sleepy unassuming Norfolk village that dates back to Saxon times. You will find Lee Dyer and his father Steve running a small but extremely high quality wine business. From their farming traditions Steve planted a few vines to ‘See what they would do” and today we have the answer! Winbirri Wines is now run by Lee and they now have 25 acres under vine with a steadily growing output approaching 80,000 bottles per year. Over the years they have impressed the Judges at both the English and Welsh Wine Awards and the East Anglia Wine Awards with an array of awards over the years.
Often asked where the name originates, it is from the Saxon words, Win meaning Wine and a Birri is an orchard.
